PROB: LuxRiot DVR may be unable to show video due to conflict with FFDSHOW software

Filed under: How To — roman @ 12:11 pm

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot up to 1.6.2

Symptoms

With FFDSHOW (DirectShow and VFW codec for decoding/encoding many video and audio formats) installed, LuxRiot DVR Client might fail to show some video streams due to software conflict.

Note that FFDSHOW might be installed as a part of other software distributions such as:

  • Media players
  • Codec packs
  • Multimedia software

Description

FFDSHOW software registers itself as a priority DirectShow filter, intercepts LuxRiot’s video stream and fails to decode it. Typically, LuxRiot DVR Client would show gray filled image or, in GDI mode, display a message that it is unable to decode video due to absence of JPEG codec.

FFDSHOW might also affect presentation of MJPG encoded video (the codec is typically being used to encode video grabbed using ComArt boards).

Resolution

In order to workaround the conflict it is required to either uninstall FFDSHOW package or disable its codecs that conflict with LuxRiot software.

To pop up FFDSHOW configuration dialog, use Run… menu item in Start Menu and start the following command:

rundll32 %windir%\system32\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax,configure

and disable the codecs MJPG, SVQ1, SVQ3 as shown below:

image004.png

Click Apply to commit the changes. LuxRiot DVR Client will need to be restarted for the changes to have effect.

Starting next release of LuxRiot it will also be possible to adjust priority of LuxRiot’s codec and switch codec FOURCC codecs to allow LuxRiot and other software (like FFDSHOW) operate simultaneously.

BUG: LuxRiot 1.6.1 might fail to receive video from Vivotek 6000 series camera configured without username and password

Filed under: Bugs — roman @ 2:08 pm

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot up to 1.6.1

Symptoms

When Vivotek 6000 series camera is configured with LuxRiot to be accessible without username and password, LuxRiot might fail to properly receive video.

Resolution

In order to workaround the problem, one need to set up username and password access to the camera, even fake if username is not required to access the camera. This should restore operation of the camera.

The fix will be included into next release of LuxRiot.

FIX: An attempt to obtain server archive statistics through remote connection causes disconnection from server

Filed under: Fixes — roman @ 8:51 am

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot up to 1.6.1

Symptoms

An attempt to obtain archive statistics on remote server causes unpredictable behavior on LuxRiot DVR Server, most often remote connection disconnection or freeze or other symptoms of getting into unstable state.

Resolution

An update of LuxRiot modules fixes the problem. Note that both server and client computers needs to be updated.

Additionally the process of gathering statistics is significantly optimized for speed.

It is strongly recommended to upgrade to LuxRiot 1.6.1 before applying the fix if an older version of LuxRiot is installed.

  1. Download the archives DVRCommunication-1.6.1.2196.zip and DVRServerTools-1.6.1.544.zip
    Stop all LuxRiot applications
  2. Open LuxRiot instllation directory, typically C:\Program Files\LuxRiot Digital Video Recorder
  3. Backup files DVRCommunication.dll and DVRServerTools.dll by renaming to e.g. DVRServerTools.01.dll
  4. Extract new DVRCommunication.dll and DVRServerTools.dll from downloaded archive in place of the renamed files
  5. Start LuxRiot applications

The fix will also be included into next release of LuxRiot.
