Problems using LuxRiot with dual monitor systems

Filed under: Support — roman @ 4:21 pm

Since it is asked over and over again, an update on the dual monitor issue:

From the client:

Running the Luxriot Client on a Dell PC with dual monitors. The desktop is extended across both monitors. When you drag the client application from monitor 1 to monitor 2 the camera images (16) disapear and every screen displays “Unspecified error”. The error flickers between a screen with an image of a camera and the error message at the bottom, and a black screen with diagonal white stripes and the error message in the middle.

This is a known issue caused by inability of DirectX subsystem to use secondary monitor properly. The workaround options are:

  1. Make sure you are using latest drivers for video board
  2. Install most recent DirectX runtime from Microsoft website
  3. If the problem is not gone after the above steps, switch LuxRiot to GDI mode as described here.

Running LuxRiot DVR in service mode with background services optimization

Filed under: Performance, Support — alex @ 11:21 am

For the best performance we recommend you to switch on background services optimization in Windows performance options (see the attached screenshots) and to run LuxRiot DVR in service mode. This will give you upto 8% CPU performance increase.

Table 1. CPU usage of LuxRiot DVR running in service mode

Programs Background Services
Windows XP 79% 75%
Windows 2003 76% 74%
Windows Vista To be tested To be tested

Table 2. CPU usage of LuxRiot DVR running in application mode

Programs Background Services
Windows XP 82% 77%
Windows 2003 To be tested To be tested
Windows Vista To be tested To be tested

Tests performed on Intel Pentium D 3.0 GHz Dual Core computer with Microsoft Windows XP Professional + SP2 and Microsoft Windows 2003 Server + SP1, no local client, 10 network cameras recording. LuxRiot Enterprise Edition 1.2.22 has been used for testing.

INFO: Low frame rate of Arecont Vision network cameras

Filed under: How To, Network Cameras, Support — alex @ 8:21 am

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot 1.x

Symptoms

Under certain circumstances Arecont Vision network cameras may produce low frame rate (FPS).

Resolution

Typical low frame rate issues and workarounds for Arecont Vision network cameras are:

  1. Arecont Vision network cameras are not designed for concurrent access. So frame rate will slow down dramatically if two or more users are watching video from the same camera at the same time. Beside this Arecont Vision Network Camera Search Wizard in LuxRiot DVR will not find the camera if this camera already transmits video to some user.
  2. Arecont Vision megapixel camera consumes large traffic while operating, e.g. AV 3130 camera in max quality mode consumes approx. 20Mbps. Certain network equipment have been noticed to create image transmission problems or slow down frame rate. For example, 3Com routers are not recommended. To bypass network transmission problem try to disable “use double packets” (Advanced tab). This feature specifies whether to use data packets with 2KB instead of the regular 1KB for image transmission (by default, 2KB). This allows increasing image transmission bandwidth, but may lead to a less stable performance on overloaded networks.
