HOWTO: Install LuxRiot WebClient on the intranet

Filed under: How To — roman @ 9:11 pm

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot 1.1.x and LuxRiot WebClient 1.1.x

Summary

This article explains how to copy LuxRiot WebClient distributables onto intranet web server so that LAN workstations could have LuxRiot WebClient installed without accessing external network.

Instructions

To make LuxRiot WebClient available on the intranet please do the following:

  1. Choose intranet web location for the web client files, for instance, http://myintranet/luxriotwebclient
  2. Copy the following files to the chosen location:
  3. This file is only required to install problem report wizard:

These files should then be accessible as:

  4. Copy HTML page files to the chosen location on the web server.

Content of HTML files is basic and does not have artwork embedded. Note that Internet Explorer with JavaScript feature turned on (default settings) is required to use the LuxRiot WebClient.Once completed, http://myintranet/luxriotwebclient/Default.html location should lead to a login form and after its submission, there should be a page that installs all required components from your intranet server’s .cab files and provide LuxRiot WebClient interface.

In case LuxRiot WebClient does not work after the mentioned steps completed, the first thing to check is firewall settings and client side Internet Explorer settings, if they allow installation of signed ActiveX controls.

Event Log in Problem Report

Problem Report should also include excerpt from system event log, maybe filtered by LuxRiot related entries. For some problems it may be quite useful.

DirectShow Devices

Filed under: DirectShow, Support — roman @ 4:53 pm

A word about various DirectShow that may work or may not with LuxRiot. Some time ago I prepared a test webpage to be opened with Internet Explorer (only!)

http://luxriot.com/support/directshowvideosources.asp

This will install a small ActiveX control (user will probably have to confirm installation) and there will be a report generated about existing DirectShow devices similar to shown on this image:

We will need this information to check compatibility of those DirectShow devices with LuxRiot.
