FIX: Changing layout may result in freeze of live video

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot 1.7.1

Symptoms

When screen layout is changed, and also possibly caused by other events, one or more live video streams might get frozen without further image updates. In the same time, a video footer is updated with new frame times, motion detection status and other supplementary information.

A minimization of the client application window (which internally pauses broadcasts, unless reconfigued by user) is typically resolving the freeze. The freeze also does not happen if user chooses GDI based video renderer under menu Tools, Options.

The problem is specific to particular hardware and/or Windows updates (detailed source of the problem is being investigated, the problem is believed to be specific to ATI video hardware and specific driver version).

Resolution

An update of one of the LuxRiot modules works the problem around.

It is strongly recommended to upgrade to latest LuxRiot 1.7.1 before applying the fix if an older version of LuxRiot is installed.

  1. Download the archive DVRClientTools-1.7.2.22618.zip
  2. Stop all LuxRiot applications
  3. Open LuxRiot instllation directory, typically “C:\Program Files\LuxRiot Digital Video Recorder”
  4. Backup file DVRClientTools.dll by renaming to e.g. DVRClientTools.01.dll
  5. Extract new file DVRClientTools.dll from downloaded archive in place of the renamed file
  6. Start LuxRiot applications

The fix will also be included into next release of LuxRiot.

Note that the solution is only applicable to LuxRiot version 1.7.1, and is not compatible with earlier releases.

INFO: How to unlock an option to configured Arecont Vision cameras to be accessed via TFTP protocol

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot 1.7.1

Summary

This post describes required steps to unlock TFTP protocol communication between LuxRiot DVR software and Arecont Vision cameras. As TFTP protocol based communication is deprecated, and HTTP protocol based is the default and the only available option starting LuxRiot DVR versiom 1.7.1, a fallback to TFTP protocol is available through manual edit of system registry.

Description

To be able to configure Arecont Vision camera to be accessed using TFTP protocol and through Arecont Vision SDK, it is required to add the following system registry value. This can be fulfilled using one of the two following ways:

  1. Download arecont-tftp archive, open/extract and contained Registration Entries file (.REG), double click it so that Registry Editor prompts merge the contained entires with the registry and confirm the merge
  2. Alternatively, start Registry Editor (regedit.exe) manually from run prompt (Start Menu, Run…; or Win+R), locate the key (create if needed) “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\A&H\LuxRiot\Client” and under this key create a DWORD/REG_DWORD value named “Show DVRServerNetworkCamerasArecont Component Dynamic Leaps” and give it the value of 2.

Restart client application and under Camera Setup Wizard it should starting showing an additional option, as shown on the screenshot below:

Arecont Vision camera configuration option being deprecated

Arecont Vision camera configuration option being deprecated

This option allows an Arecont Vision camera to be added to LuxRiot DVR so that the camera is accessed using TFTP protocol.

It is also advised to ensure that LuxRiot DVR is of the latest version, and so are the versions of cameras’ firmware.

PROB: FTP export fails if target file name contains special characters

Filed under: Fixes — roman @ 6:07 am

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot 1.6.x up to 1.6.11

Symptoms

LuxRiot DVR Server might unexpectedly fail to export video frames using FTP/File Video Frame Export feature showing errors 0×80072ee5 “The URL is invalid” or similar.

Description

The problem may arise if target file name contains characters that are not allowed, including through template $(Title) placeholder to be substituted with camera title, which in its turn has colon or slash characters.

The update fixes the problem and replaces special characters with underscores. Additionally, the update strips “ftp://” prefix from host name, which users frequently include into host name by mistake.

Resolution

An update of one of the LuxRiot modules fixes the problem.

  1. Download archive DVRServerTools-1.6.11.9575.zip
  2. Stop all LuxRiot applications
  3. Open LuxRiot installation directory, typically C:\Program Files\LuxRiot Digital Video Recorder
  4. Optional, but recommended: Backup file DVRServerTools.dll by renaming to e.g. DVRServerTools.01.dll
  5. Extract new DVRServerTools.dll from downloaded archive in place of the renamed file

PROB: Arecont Vision AV3130 camera does not show full resolution video in night mode

Filed under: Bugs, Fixes — roman @ 3:10 am

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot 1.6.3 through 1.6.9

Symptoms

LuxRiot shows partial picture from Video Arecont Vision AV3130 when the camera switches to night mode.

Description

When AV3130 camera is switched to night mode, it starts showing partial image, such as 832×672 image while full resolution expected is 1280×1024. The problem applies to both full and half resolutions on the camera.

The source of the problem is in updated redistributable library AV2000SDK.dll shipped with LuxRiot starting from version 1.6.3.

Resolution

To workaround the problem, it is required to downgrade redistributable library AV2000SDK.dll to an older version (2.5.37) which was free from the problem mentioned above.

  1. Download archive Luxriot-1.6.9.AV2000SDK.2.5.37.zip
  2. Stop all LuxRiot applications
  3. Open LuxRiot installation directory, typically C:\Program Files\LuxRiot Digital Video Recorder

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot 1.6.x up to 1.6.6

Symptoms

LuxRiot DVR running on a system with Comart XeCap series video capture board might freeze or otherwise perform in an unstable fashion.

Description

The problem more often comes up on a system with 16 and more capture channels running and especially on a system with one or more channels periodically becoming unavailable (due to, for instance, power outage on camera or signal loss).

LuxRiot DVR Server Watchdog in most cases handles the problem in server, however the operating system might lock in board driver and stop DVR operation.

  1. Download self-extracting archive DVRServerXeCap-1.6.9.7276.zip
  2. Stop all LuxRiot applications
  3. Open LuxRiot installation directory, typically C:\Program Files\LuxRiot Digital Video Recorder
  4. Optional, but recommended: Backup file DVRServerXeCap.dll by renaming to e.g. DVRServerXeCap.01.dll
  5. Start downloaded file to extract new DVRServerXeCap.dll in place of the renamed file
  6. Start LuxRiot applications

FIX: LuxRiot DVR Server might excessively load operating system while recording to video archive

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot 1.6.x up to 1.6.6

Symptoms

LuxRiot DVR Server configured with cameras set up for recording might make an excessive load on operating system, which may depending on configuration result in degraded performance, gaps in video archive, watchdog restarts, errors 0×80070021 ‘The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file.’ logged into system event log.

Description

The problem is more likely to happen with two or more disks selected for recording and with high disk quotas (close to 100%). Please note that to avoid data fragmentation issues in long run it is recommended to use disk quotas not higher than 85-90%.

The update fixes the problem and improves stability of server part of LuxRiot DVR.
