PROB: AVG anti-virus FALSELY detects LuxRiot DVR’s DVRServer.exe as ‘Downloader.Swizzor’ virus

The information applies to:

  • LuxRiot up to 1.2.x and more recent

Symptoms

Starting January, 28 AVG anti-virus installations that updated their databases online with new signatures or fresh installations might start FALSELY report LuxRiot DVR’s server side running executable DVRServer.exe as a ‘Downloader.Swizzor’ virus due to a problem/collision/confusion in anti-virus database.

Resolution

Grisoft, developer of AVG anti-virus,  has confirmed that detection was false and updated AVG virus definitions. Thus an update of AVG database should solve the problem. Before this or if an update is impossible such a false detection may be disabled using AVG anti-virus settings.

Please note that anti-virus software may have significant impact on DVR performance and consider disabling anti-virus on a highly loaded DVR system (you might wish to at least compare the DVR performance with and without anti-virus).

  1. In order to workaround the issue, it is required to update AVG database. From a customer:

I had thought that disabling AVG would allow me to re-install, but in fact I had to have AVG running, with the corrected AVG update, for it to permit LuxRiot to install and run.
