INFO: Storing LuxRiot archive data on a network drive
The information applies to:
- LuxRiot 1.2.20 and more recent, LuxRiot Light 1.2.20 and more recent
Summary
LuxRiot can be configured to store archive data on a network drive, for instance, on a Network-attached storage (NAS). By default LuxRiot uses local hard drives for archive storage, which are listed under recording properties. An UNC (Universal Naming Convention) path to external storage is to be added manually:

Description
Once installed, LuxRiot uses all discovered local drives for archive storage. The drives are listed under recording properties and may be checked or unchecked to allow or deny drive usage for archive purposes.

Additionally the buttons Add and Remove allow to add or remove network path to the list of drives. Network path is added in UNC format, for example \\Server\Video\LuxRiot\Archive Files:

Once added, the external path is shown in the list of storage directories and can be removed any time later:

It is important to take into consideration that use of a network drive increases network traffic (up to doubling) which may become a bottleneck when network cameras are used and thus generate their own network traffic. A better solution is to have two network cards on DVR server with one network segment connected to cameras and the other one to NAS.
Network shares may also be used with LuxRiot through mapping them to a drive letter, in which case the network storage appears in the list of drives automatically. The preferred method, however, is to specify network resource using Universal Naming Convention (using server share and names). In particular, drive letter mappings are not available for LuxRiot DVR Server running in service mode, in which case use of UNC notation is mandatory.
The feature will be available with coming release of LuxRiot.
